Paul T. Bowen

Mr. Bowen primarily focuses on building and enforcing international patent portfolios (design and utility) and opining on the validity and infringement of U.S. patents. He travels abroad on a regular basis (e.g., to Europe, Japan and Australia) to counsel and assist clients with prosecution-related workshops and presentations. Mr. Bowen has prepared numerous cease and desist letters, licenses, and pre- and post-litigation opinions, including providing advice on designing around patents. Mr. Bowen has extensive experience in preparing and maximizing the use of design applications.

Mr. Bowen has prepared briefings for, and argued before, the United States Patent and Trademark Office's Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences; assisted with the preparation of briefs and motions for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and various U.S. District Courts (e.g., the Western District of Michigan and the Northern District of Georgia); and assisted with conducting a jury trial in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Maryland.

From 1989 to 1994, Mr. Bowen worked at the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) where he examined electro-mechanical applications mainly in the field of photocopiers and printers, and has been in private practice since leaving the USPTO in 1994.

Mr. Bowen is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the District of Columbia, and the USPTO. He is also admitted in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Mr. Bowen is affiliated with the AIPLA.
