Michael Shea concentrates on prosecution, litigation and counseling in patent matters, particularly in the electrical and computer areas. He has written and prosecuted numerous patent applications in complex technologies such as video game systems, semiconductor memory devices, semiconductor fabrication, televisions, cable television systems and liquid crystal displays. Mr. Shea has also been actively involved in many litigation matters and regularly provides clients with opinions evaluating infringement, validity and patentability issues. Mr. Shea received a Bachelor of Science degree in physics (magna cum laude) from Manhattan College in 1984. After two years of graduate study in physics, he attended Georgetown University Law Center and received his Juris Doctor degree in 1990. While attending law school, Mr. Shea worked as an examiner at the United States Patent and Trademark Office and then as a law clerk at the intellectual property firm of Banner & Witcoff. Mr. Shea was a partner at the Banner firm when he joined Nixon & Vanderhye in 1998. From 1992 to 1998, Mr. Shea was an adjunct professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center. He has given many talks on various aspects of intellectual property law. Mr. Shea is admitted to practice in Virginia,
