ROBERT W. ADAMS joined Nixon & Vanderhye in 1986. Prior to that time, he was an associate (from 1973 to 1979) and later a partner (from 1979 to 1986) with the law firm of Cushman, Darby & Cushman. Mr. Adams is a graduate of the University of Maryland (B.A. 1972) and George Washington University (J.D. with honors, 1975).
He is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the International Trademark Association and the Licensing Executives Society. Mr. Adams has published several articles concerning the licensing of U.S. technology in Les Nouvelles, the international licensing publication of the Licensing Executives Society. He also has given patent seminar lectures relating to the interface between U.S. patent and antitrust law.
Mr. Adams' primary legal experience has been
in the fields of patent
and trademark litigation, trademark prosecution
and the licensing of
intellectual property. He is admitted to practice
before the United
States Supreme Court; the United States Courts
of Appeal for the Second,
Third, Fourth, Seventh, Ninth, Tenth, D.C. and
Federal Circuits; and the
United States District Courts for Eastern District
of Virginia and the
District of Columbia. His extensive litigation
experience is
demonstrated by more than forty published decisions
(in Federal Courts
throughout the country and at the International
Trade Commission)
involving cases where he acted as counsel. In
his role as lead counsel,
recent summary judgment decisions of no patent
infringement were
obtained for his clients in Colida v. Sharp
Electronics Corp. et al.,
App. No. 05-1061 (Fed. Cir. Mar. 9, 2005), and
Sony Electronics et al.
v. Soundview Technologies, 2004 U.S. App. LEXIS
18406 (Fed. Cir. Aug.
11, 2004).
